About Cathy Guerriero

A dedicated public servant fighting for the people.

Who I Am

I’m Cathy Guerriero — a public advocate, community organizer, and housing rights champion with over 15 years of experience standing up for residents who can’t stand up for themselves.

My journey into public advocacy began in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn, where I grew up watching landlords illegally harass tenants, city services fail working-class families, and residents feel powerless against systems designed without them in mind.

I decided then that someone needed to fight back — and that someone would be me.

My Background

Before becoming a full-time public advocate, I earned my degree in Political Science and Community Development from CUNY Hunter College. I then spent seven years working as a community organizer for a local housing non-profit, learning firsthand how systemic inequality plays out in real people’s lives.

Since then I have:

  • Represented over 2,000 tenants in housing court proceedings
  • Organized 50+ community forums across all five boroughs
  • Secured over $3 million in tenant relief funding
  • Testified before the City Council on housing, healthcare access, and immigrant rights
  • Founded the Guerriero Civic Action Network, a grassroots coalition of over 5,000 active members

What I Believe

“Every person — regardless of income, race, or background — deserves a seat at the table where decisions about their lives are made.”

I believe in:

  • Transparency in government
  • Accountability for landlords and corporations
  • Access to legal resources and information for all
  • Community-led solutions over top-down policies
  • Compassionate, fact-based advocacy

My Work Areas

🏠 Housing Rights

I fight illegal evictions, rent overcharges, code violations, and tenant harassment. Every resident deserves a safe, stable home.

🗳️ Civic Engagement

Democracy only works when people participate. I run voter registration drives, town halls, and civic education programs year-round.

I connect residents with pro-bono legal help and pursue government agencies when they fail the communities they’re supposed to serve.

🤝 Community Organizing

I help neighbors build coalitions, find their collective voice, and apply sustained pressure on the decision-makers who affect their lives.
