Advocating for small business owners and protecting the rights of our union rank and file are NOT mutually exclusive. My husband and I run small businesses. But I come from a family of New York City teachers, firefighters and police.
Grandpa Guerriero worked as a longshoreman and union member for more than 35 years, while both my parents and two of my sisters are NYC public school teachers. My brother and brother-in-law are New York City firemen. And in addition to teaching in the NYC schools for 35 years, my father was also a 30-year member of the Port Police and Guards Union (PPGU). My solid, middleclass life and stability is thanks to the opportunity I had to stand on the shoulders of these giants and to the safe working environments their unions provided them and our families.
